More Photos of the Sheep Afghan

This one taken outside by the barn at my sister's is my favorite!  

Here it is laid out on the bed "inside". 

After all my angst I am really pleased with how it turned out.  I had debated adding an i-cord edging but in the end I really loved the border "as is" and my sister agreed. 

In case you haven't been following this knit from start to finish, the pattern is The Sheep Afghan by Gitta Schrade  and the yarn is Berroco Comfort Chunky.  It took me approx. 100  hours to knit and seam.  

I keep swearing off deadline knitting, but when it comes to afghans I sometimes wonder if I'd ever get one finished if I didn't have a deadline.

It is indeed more blessed to give than to receive!

Our youngest nephew was more than happy to try on the sweater I knit for him and as you can see, Oscar the rabbit got a BIG HUG -- which is about as good as it gets for this knitter!

Oh, and as I suspected, the sweater was in pretty constant motion!

Sheep Afghan Complete and Gifted

I finished weaving in the last end at 1:39p.m. on the 21st and we left at 3p.m. to drive up to Ontario for Christmas with the families. 

Last night was our first family gathering with my side and there were some birthday gifts that needed gifting.  The one that shall interest you the most is my sister's.  She was the recipient of the sheep afghan.

 Her smile is why I knit gifts for my family -- made all those hundred of hours worth it!

I'm hoping to get some better photos of the finished afghan over the next few days once the partying dies down and I have time to sort out some technical issues.  But for now, just so happy that this afghan is draped over one happy recipient!

It's Almost In The Bag!

Squares 14 and 15 are now complete, ends woven in on all 15 squares so all that is left is the seaming and the border (with 7 days left until we hit the road).   Remember last year I said I wasn't going to do this again?  "This" being the last minute rush to have something knit by Christmas.  Maybe I'll have better luck sticking with that resolution next year. 

 

But I did find the perfect bag for gifting this afghan, don't you think? 

Anyone else still working on deadline knitting?  Let me know if I have company in this madness. 

 

Getting down to the Crunch

So, squares 12 and 13 are off the needles which means there are just 2 squares remaining to knit and this afghan will be ready for seaming, sigh!  

This seems, therefore, to be the perfect time to tell you that I hate this afghan.  I hate everything about it and can't believe I've wasted a hundred plus hours knitting it and I don't know what I was thinking about this color selection -- it doesn't go together at all and the yarn looks cheap and what's worse is my sister is going to hate it too.  She's going to wonder why in the world I didn't just go to the store and buy her something decent for her birthday.  It's all just a HUGE disappointment. 

Which is how I've felt about ALL of my afghans at one point or another just prior to completion so I'm trying to remind myself of that and that when it all comes together I will love it.  (But honestly, I think this might just be the one time I won't!)

 

Another Christmas Gift Complete

I started this sweater for my nephew back in September. It's  Hugo's Sweater from Pure Knits: Sophisticated Designs in Shades of White , except I knit it in Berroco Comfort brown.

I thought, when I set it aside in September, that a few hours would be all I'd need to finish it up. I started yesterday morning and  it actually took most of the day to knit up the yoke and collar. 

If I were to knit this sweater again I think I'd look for a way to create a smoother transition between seed/garter stitch because I'd like a neater raglan line.  But you probably won't even notice it one it's hanging on a toddler in perpetual motion.
