I've yet to knit a pair of socks despite the constant urgings from my BKF who knits rather a lot of them. But I am always on the hunt for good wool-free sock weight yarns just the same. There are a lot of patterns that call for a sock weight yarn and for us wool-free knitters, not a lot of yarns to answer that call.
Last month, when I visited Patternworks, I picked up a ball of Knit One, Crochet Too's, Pediwick. It's a bamboo/nylon blend (not a speck of wool or animal fiber in it) and I've been using it to work on a new design.
The yarn has a nice sheen to it and a lot of stretch. It is definitely a switch for me to be working with a yarn with memory.
Personally, I'd never be able to wear a pair of socks made from this yarn because the high nylon content would dry my feet out in a second, but if you are looking for wool-free socks that will hold their shape, I'd definitely recommend it.
I'm using it to create what I hope will be a pair of pretty wristwarmers. (Here's a sneak peak).
I hope to get the pattern written end edited and available soon.
In the meantime, do you have a favorite wool-free sock weight yarn you'd recommend?
