Well, it's been a white and icy and cold holiday season here in Toronto. It was rainy when we first arrived, then came the ice storm and the power outages and then the snow storm (we had one cold/dark night). Finally, after 5 days of the trees being encased in ice it started to melt.
Mom's vest was gifted with needles this Christmas but once I could knit out in the open I was able to finish it up pretty quickly and she is wearing it today.
Mom loves it (black goes with everything) and it was a perfect fit!
I used Young Touch mercerized cotton by Estelle (probably discontinued by now I bought this yarn so long ago) and the pattern is SideCurl Cardigan Vest by Janet Szabo.
I made a few adaptations to meet Mom's preferences -- a plain stockinette back (rather than cabled) and no buttons on the front band.
I did find it very taxing to knit the cable pattern with black yarn (a strain on these aging eyes of mine) and it's hard to see the stitch definition from any distance, but it does make for a very classy looking vest and to repeat my mother, "It will go with everything!"
