I took a drive out to Lexington, Ma today to check out a yarn shop I've been hearing good things about. It's "Wild and Wooly"on the Green and it certainly is worth a visit if you happen to be in the area.
When you enter the yarn shop, it appears to be a modest size with an average selection of yarns. The staff were very friendly and attentive.
In addition to the yarn, there was a nice selection of buttons, lots of knitting needles and accessories and a very large selection of knitting magazines and pattern books.
I thought it was a nice "wee" yarn shop. Then I overheard one of the staff telling a customer that the yarn she wanted was "downstairs". And, turns out that what you see at first glance is only half the story.
This store doesn't cater to wool-free knitters particularly although I found enough wool free yarns mixed in with the rest both upstairs and down. But the staff were very helpful in searching them out for me and I got a ball of TYDY Cotton, Tropical, which I've been admiring online but really wanted to see and touch in person. I also want to swatch it to see if it will work out for an upcoming project I have in mind so I brought a ball home and some orange fish buttons for the peach baby sweater and a couple of balls of Rowan All Seasons.
If you live in the neighborhood this is a very welcoming and supportive yarn store and one I'd highly recommend making an aquaintance with. If you are just passing through it's worth stopping in.
I would suggest a morning visit as business really picks up in the afternoon which gives them less time than they'd wish to spend with each customer, but bless their hearts they were trying to service everyone. You may have to hunt a little harder here for wool free options than other stores, but it's a rather fun place to go hunting.
There's an excellent candy shop right around the corner - comes in very handy if you need to bribe small children to behave while they're in the yarn shop! :)
