Yesterday my Trapeze Coat and I flew to Phoenix, Arizona
Unfortunately, that's not the only thing that went flying.
We had a lot of turbulence on the flight so it was awhile before drinks were served. And then, it was some time before I got around to drinking mine. So there I was knitting away with an almost-full cup of Cranberry juice with ice next to the half-empty can of the same on the seat back tray in front of me.
Then suddenly things started to get rocky again. No warning, just a sudden jolt and both can and cup were bounced up off the tray in front of me. I like to think that my daily knitting exercises were responsible for my quick reflexes because I somehow managed to grab them both mid-air without hardly spilling a drop. However, I now had two drinks in my hand and it was so turbulent I was pitching from one side of my seat to the other. I knew there was no hope of keeping them from spilling on myself or my neighbor for long so I yelled back to the steward, "I need to get rid of these drinks".
The words had no sooner left my mouth than I was bounced several inches up off my seat and the cranberry juice shot up out of the glass like a geyser and then came down again upon my head (and unfortunately on the people sitting behind me as well). Someone shouted, "You got rid of them now".
The steward did not run to my rescue, no, the seat belt sign was on and he was not free to move about the cabin. Thankfully some poor soul was using the bathroom when the turbulence hit so the steward kindly asked him to drop off some paper towels to me on his way back to his seat.
To add insult to injury, I ended up having to frog back several rows (411 stitches per row) of the Trapeze coat before I could start knitting forward on it because of a small mistake I'd made in the pattern (there is no end of things you can mess up on this pattern) and by the time we landed in Phoenix I'd only managed to knit back to the very row where I started.
Five hours of knitting and not so much as a row ahead. Sigh!
Anyway, I made it. The resort is lovely and the weather fine. But I'll just be having water on the trip home -- cranberry showers are VERY STICKY!
