Ever since my BKF sent me a link to the Lizard Ridge Pattern I KNEW it had to be one of my 3 afghan gift knits. However, I have struggled for months with whether or not to actually knit this pattern because I LOVE the look of the Noro yarn versions and using Noro is simply not an option for the wool free knitter.
I loved the way this afghan looked with the vibrancy and depth of color and the changing shading and the bit of fuzz to it all. I've just not found any comparable wool free yarn with the range of colors and shading and texture to duplicate it.
Finally, when we were at Webs last month I settled (with the helpful suggestions of several staff) on a few different skeins of Berroco Weekend and Berroco Comfort with the idea of creating my own Noro-esque stripes.
I still had the Noro version of perfection in my head and I wasn't sure it would work, but in the end I have finally come to the realization that while my afghan will not be anything like the Noro version, it could still potentially be a very bright, crazy-colored afghan that will be both fun to knit and fun to give.
So, here is my first Lizard Ridge Afghan Square (unblocked). What do you think? Is there hope?
Looks lovely. Are those short rows in there?

I think it will be great! I've had my eye on that pattern for a year or two. You've reminded me I should get cracking.

Absolutely! The yarn choices are definitely winners. I love the control you get too. With Noro, you do have to be really okay with randomness.

Thanks, Janet, I love the randonmness you are getting on your squares so there you go -- but either way, it's a fun knit!
