I love to work on fingerless mitts or socks when I travel - it's small and generally not to technically difficult.

I usually do socks and I always use bamboo needles, just in case an overzealous TSA person wants to press the issue. To this point, I've never had a problem, though. Knitting socks keeps the elbows over my own lap on those cramped flights.

I like socks, but I don't think you knit socks. Anything with a feather and fan pattern is nice for travel.
